One of the largest and most logistically difficult projects we have ever produced, this series required comprehensive, detailed services: including adequate research and collaboration to master the subject matter for scripting, training for offshore filming safety, international travel, filming at multiple locations, translation services and coordination among many different teams involved in the construction project.
Each video provides a detailed view of the project’s lifecycle, from initial planning to final execution and demonstrates McDermott’s unique capability to manage such massive engineering projects.
Focuses on the engineering phase, detailing the design and technical planning that laid the foundation for the project.
Covers the procurement phase, showcasing the acquisition of materials and equipment, and the logistics involved in managing these resources.
Highlights the fabrication process, with multiple days of filming in Altamira, Mexico, capturing the construction of components and the intricate work involved.
Documents the commissioning phase, where systems and components are tested and prepared for operational use.
Features extensive coverage of the installation process offshore, with 25 days of filming capturing the assembly and deployment of the project in its operational environment.
Wraps up the series with a summary of the project’s success, key achievements, and reflections on the overall process.
As a large project with many complex components, there were many different goals and talking points that McDermott wanted to express. Our job was to synthesize these needs and gain enough understanding about their process to draft a coherent structure and outline for each video that would guide our scripting and b roll. These meetings also helped us determine the best point of contact for each stage of the construction, to simplify our logistical planning.
Because we were following the project through building to completion, filming spanned the course of months and included multiple locations such as McDermott’s headquarters in Houston, TX, a full day at their procurement and package management facility, several days in Alimira in Mexico, and a significant offshore filming period, which required specialized training for safety compliance.
As you can imagine, the process of designing, building and testing an offshore oil rig has a lot of interesting phases that don’t necessarily have good visuals. That’s where the post-production wizards come in, mixing the best sound bites with the right footage, stills, renders, whatever their magic can conjure to help us understand and stay engaged with this complex subject matter. They establish pacing and focus to emphasize the most valuable features of this turnkey project.
